Baitz Costume Dolls

Jessica sent in a question about her vintage costume doll asking whether it is a Lenci.

Jessica’s photos are over exposed so its difficult to see the details but it is still apparent that this doll is not by Lenci. Although Lenci did make small costume dolls from hard plastic in the 50’s and 60’s those Lenci costume dolls did not have felt hands. Continue reading

Lenci Doll Googly Remake

How do I tell the difference between new and old lenci dolls? This is a question I get asked occasionally

– if you are new to Lenci doll collecting this can be a confusing issue.
The Lenci dolls made during the 80’s and 90’s up until the Lenci factory closed in the early 2000’s can be considered the “new” Lenci dolls. These Lenci dolls were made during the boom in doll collecting that occurred at the time. Continue reading

159 Series Lenci doll of 1924

[fgallery id=2 w=300 h=518 t=0 title=”159″]

This 159 Series Lenci doll was made in 1924, she reminds me of little Shirley Temple, who was not even born yet at the time this doll was created. In the slide show above you can see an original black and white Lenci factory photo of the prototype model that was used for registration purposes. In the factory photo you will notice white dots one on each cheek and one at the tip of the nose. These white dots are highlights that have all but faded in the doll in the present day color photo of the same model doll – click on picture above to change the image. This type of highlight was widely used in the early dolls made up to 1925, if you have an early Lenci doll you might be able to detect a trace of the original highlight marks – the first time I saw white mark like this on a Lenci doll I thought it was a blemish or a faded spot, but seeing the original factory pictures has cleared it up. These highlights create a sense of depth and contour when seen from a distance. Continue reading

Welcome to the new blog

The Lenci doll collector blogWelcome to the new blog for The Lenci Doll Collector website. Its several years now since I started The Lenci Doll Collector website at lenci-dolls.com. When  started I did not know much about making websites but I was driven by my desire to share the information I had gathered about the famous Lenci Dolls of Italy that were made in the 1920’s and 30’s, back in the Scavini years, when the earliest, rarest and most famous Lenci dolls were made.

There was a lack of information on the web so I decided to make a website. I had found an old Lenci Catalog with pages  I had never seen before – that was the Ars Lenci Ultime Novita Catalog of 1925  I began by learning to code some html and using notepad I put some basic pages together and still to this day the pages at lenci-dolls.com are all hand written using notepad. Generous fellow collectors donated copies of rare Lenci catalog pages and many others have shared their expertise and knowledge for which I am very grateful.

It is long overdue for me to add a wordpress blog using the latest wordpress technology so I can more easly add new content and site visitors can comment if they wish.

So  I hope you find the blog useful  you are welcome to add your comment and feedback.

The location of the blog is http://lenci-dolls.com/blog/ and the main site is at http://lenci-dolls.com

Best Wishes,

Patricia Hayes
